    Manufacturing

Ballantynes purpose built factory is located in the Melbourne suburb of Laverton North, chosen for its location with easy access to the Melbourne Port, airport and interstate highways. Opened in May 1999, it houses all manufacturing operations, logistics, a research & development laboratory and QA facilities.

Cheese Powder & Specialty Powder manufacturing

In February 2004 installation of a new spray dryer was successfully completed. It is now in full production manufacturing Ballantynes range of specialty dairy powders.

The dryer incorporates a number of special features to cater for Ballantynes specific food ingredient manufacturing processes. These features will ensure strict quality standards will be maintained and allow for new and novel ingredients to be added to Ballantynes product range.

The Niro dryer is purpose-built and extremely flexible, handling a wide range of both speciality dairy and non-dairy powders with different functional characteristics and end-user requirements. Included in the product mix are cheese powders, cultured dairy powders, high fat and high protein products, coloured materials, beverage mixes and dairy dessert premixes. It also provides the opportunity for customers products to be contract dried.

Adjacent to the dryer, a new wet processing area has been constructed. It uses a pasteurisation system to allow for the handling of a wide range of viscosities and temperatures. The dryer is fed by controlled temperature tanks to allow for culturing and other processing needs. Two preparation tanks complete the equipment range - these are multi-purpose and can be used to either heat or cool product.

    Butter

The butter production room houses 6 production lines that have the ability to pack various products ranging in sizes from 7g to 500g.

February 2006 saw the installation of a new larger Form-Fill-Seal machine linked to an automatic carton packaging system. This, incorporated with the current manufacturing machinery and a new plant lay out, will maximise our efficencies and capacities for our current and future customer requirements.

The new resources mean a significant upgrading of our manufacturing capabilities in all product groups.

    Sauces

Installation of a new industrial kitchen in 2008 has enabled production of a wide range of sauce type products as well as processing / filling of a range of other hot and cold fill products into portion control packs
